Bay Harbor "Day at the Beach" Destination Shoot, Petoskey, MI
September 13, 2010

Nothing more serene than the waves of Lake Michigan lapping the beach.  Nothing more dramatic than a gusty storm, complete with crashing waves and a moody, gray sky.  I met up with a few clients at the Inn at Bay Harbor over Labor Day weekend and took these pictures on a stormy, Saturday morning.  It wasn't really the kind of day that you would think "Hey, let's go out and take pictures" because we had gale-force winds and sporadic rain, but the lighting really was gorgeous and I was lucky to be working with a few adventurous families!  Here are a few of the view from my  room, the "T" family, and a few of my own little All-American beach boy.

The rest of the weekend was filled with relaxing fun.  We shopped, drove along the coast, ate fudge, hung out in the marina, and ate some more.  Nothing like a "farewell to summer" like a long weekend in northern Michigan at a beautiful beach side resort.

I've already had several requests from families to join me for the 2011 Day at the Beach session at Bay Harbor.  We'll announce details of next year's trip shortly after the New Year.

Next weekend, we're off to Washington, D.C. and the Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michael's, Maryland for more photos, sailing, and (hopefully!) sun!

Leisurely Summer Picnic Commercial Test Shoot With "E" and "B"
September 1, 2010

So excited to share the commercial test images I shot in collaboration with "E" and "B" a few weeks ago.  I wanted to create a scene that was "a little bit Ralph Lauren, a little bit country fare."  We worked in a patchy field at Heritage Park in Farmington at 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. on a spectacular August eve.  I scouted the location, styled the set (spent two days shopping for really fun props!), styled the models, and lit and shot the scene.  Fashions were from J. Crew, Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor, and Gap Kids.  Props were purchased at the Livingston Antique Outlet.  I owe special thanks to my dad who came ready with a dolly and did lots of "heavy lifting" for me (several trips back and forth into the field and that typewriter weighs a TON).  We had a blast!  I can't wait to do the next round of test shots as I continue to work to build my commercial book.  Stay tuned . . .
