All Dressed Up . . .
June 28, 2009

I absolutely ADORE little "M" (and check out that BLING)!  She was a ton of fun to play with last weekend during the Ann Arbor Urban Kids mini sessions and she's just amazing to look at through the lens.  My heart skips a beat when I catch her in that first shot below.  She is the very kind of child I just love to photograph and the reason I love my work.

Mom is jumping out of her seat to see these.  Sorry for the wait, "M",. . . well worth it though, don't you think?  You'll be seeing this little one on my new web site, which I'll be launching soon, so keep your eyes open for lots more of little "M."

"Z" Man Is Back!
June 27, 2009

Do you remember this little guy?  He's featured on last year's blog (see if you can find him in the September and November blogs) and on my September direct mail piece -- he was one of my favorite "poster boys" last year.  Well, Z Man is BACK and he can WALK (no, more like RUN) now!  He's keeping me on my toes.  (Pssst:  by the way, I have a secret -- Z man is going to be a big brother very soon!  I'm so excited for him and his whole family!)

BY THE WAY . . . I know many of you are hoping to see your child here on the blog.  Many of you have e-mailed or called asking when they'll appear.  I certainly don't mind your inquiries, but I promise I'm working as fast as I can to get through all of the wonderful sessions I've had (count them . . . 21!) in the last week.  This is an all-time record for me and I am pulling 18-hour days one after another, but I will meet my preview deadlines (haven't missed one yet) if it KILLS me.  My husband and I had a date night last night (which we haven't had in quite a while) and I actually felt guilty while we were out.  Hmmm . . . what does that say?

I CAN'T WAIT to show you all your beautiful children and I promise I will let you know as soon as they're up.  Thank you so very much for your patience and trust in me.  I am enormously grateful for you all.

ALSO, I've finished putting together a BRAND NEW product menu that I'm totally geeked about.  I've made changes to just about everything and every part of my business (except for the images themselves, of course) that I think you're all going to love.  One word:  SIMPLIFICATION!  Along with the new product menu will be a new web site.  I'm working on the nuts and bolts and hope to launch that soon.  I'll keep you posted!

Little "B"
June 26, 2009

Little "B" is by far one of the most photogenic little guys I've worked with this year. He's back from last year's Urban Kids and he's grown!  He always give such strong, piercing looks (he's really just thinking "come on, lady, I've got some important playtime go get to") LOL! I just want to throw a fishing pole over his shoulder and send him down a country road with that hat.  Mom did a great job dressing him.   Too cute!  Wait for big brother and sis coming up . . . all three stunning!

Sisterhood
June 25, 2009

I had fun with these two sisters last Thursday in Howell as part of the Urban Kids. Two very different personalities but both truly gorgeous girls.  I love the last shot, nothing like closeness between two sisters :)

Sweet Smile
June 24, 2009

I love this guy for his sparkling eyes and super cute smile!  Every child has his or her unique personality and little quirks that I like to think of as special gifts.  This guy (Lovely Locks's brother) has it all!  Don't change a thing!  What a cutie :)

Love Those Locks
June 22, 2009

Love this beauty's coily hair and porcelain skin (I have perfectly straight hair and always wanted curls).  She's a total natural.  Just wait for her younger brother . . . both total cuties!

Pure
June 21, 2009

I got to meet "N" at 8 days old last Thursday and what a beauty she is.  Sweet, pure, and perfect in every way.  I can't wait to watch her grow . . .

"M" Really Stopped Traffic!
June 19, 2009

In addition to being GORGEOUS, this senior is sweet and SMART and on her way to great things in life.  We had a great time at the Belle Isle Casino (amazing light) and then Greektown in downtown Detroit last weekend.  I got an e-mail this week from mom (who hasn't even seen the images yet) and all I can say that I'm completely flattered.  The warm feelings are mutual!

"Karen- WOW!! Sunday was a blast! [M] had so much fun and was so happy. That is a memory we will cherish always, especially as we send her off to college next fall. Your work is amazing, and we cannot wait to see [M]'s pictures. Thank you for the fantastic memory of our beautiful daughter, what an amazing gift."

Summer Fun
June 14, 2009

I've never done 9 (count 'em . . . NINE) session in one day.  Am I completely NUTS (don't answer that)?  What a beautiful day and what amazing kids I got to work with.  I was all over the place from Howell to Birmingham to Belle Isle and Greek Town in Detroit (just wait for those).  I put 258 miles on the car today -- no joke!   Everyone was in such great spirits and cooperative that it was all just summer fun.  Young "S" is the first of the batch and she's a great place to start.  Colorful.  Fun.  What summer should be all about . . .

Back From Atlanta (The PPA Seminar That Changed My Life!)
June 12, 2009

Wow!  What an amazing week I've had!  I can't say enough good about the PPA (program coordinator, Beth Moore, you ROCK girl!) as well as industry icons Ann Monteith and my mentor, Lori Nordstrom.  These women were amazing!  Encouraging.  Honest.  Warm.  Full of passion and ideas for creating a model of true success (that goes far beyond money).   This was the best photography education I've ever received.

At the counsel of my many new advisors and friends, I'll be making some big changes in the near future and I'm totally excited to announce a whole new product catalog along with those changes. All good!

Got to photograph this little guy recently. Love those eyes! Mom made an extra special effort to meet up with me from quite a distance on a less than ideal day, so to that I owe an extra THANKS!

Un-bear-ably Cute!
June 5, 2009

I love this little guy! He needs no words to describe how adorable he looks in this bear suit!

Also, as a reminder, I will be OUT OF THE OFFICE June 6 - 11 in Atlanta as part of the PPA Studio Management Services workshop and will have limited phone and NO e-mail access during that time (I will be in a conference center all day but will return messages during lunch).  I will see everyone at the June 11 Howell Urban Kids session!

Love the shots of this young woman . . . such a powerful and haunting expression.  Beautiful!

Chicago Urban Kids Session - Chicago Children's Photographer
June 3, 2009

Let's hear it for the boys!  Can you believe we photographed this first set below at the Bean at Millennium Park in Chicago?  Ummm . . . yeah!  Between the weddings, commencements, and tourists, major crowds!  Nearly IMPOSSIBLE (but between you and me I knew I could pull it off -- I love a challenge).  From the look of the shots below and the quiet looks of little "M," you'd think we had the whole place to ourselves.

Hats On To You!
June 4, 2009

Caught a few shots of this beauty over the weekend.  Do you love to knit as much as her very talented grandmother?  I absolutely adore fine yarns and I just feel the tension melt when I get a project out and those needles clicking.  I've been a client at the Knitting Room for years and I'm a BIG fan of the ladies in Birmingham who keep me stocked in premium Rowan wool cotton (a true vice and addiction), so I'm so thrilled to be working with them to create images for their new location.

Just a quick note to everyone that I'll be out of the office Saturday, June 6 - Thursday, June 11.  I'll be one of 12 studios in the country to travel to Atlanta to attend the Studio Management Services 3-day intensive seminar.  I'll be back Thursday afternoon and look forward to seeing everyone at the June 11 Howell Urban Kids event!
