AUGUST 2008

announcing the urban kids east coast tour

Well, it's official.  I've come up with a proposed Urban Kids East Coast tour itinerary.  I'll be traveling to New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh in early October.  For more information, click here.

  triple scoop

AUGUST 29, 2008 - Mom will probably be very surprised to see the first image below (yes, that IS a smile!).  Two out of the three of these gorgeous (and just LOOK at them -- I mean GORGEOUS!) boys were pretty cool with having their picture taken -- one, not so much.  I'll let you try to figure out who wasn't so gung ho.  Don't worry mom, there are many more gems.  I can't wait to show you!

  itty bitty

AUGUST 28, 2008 - Look at this itty bitty little guy!  Such an adorable baby.  I worked with his FAB-U-LOUS family as part of the first 48 newborn photography program earlier this year and was thrilled to see them again.  "J" is a whole new person!  I can't wait to watch this little guy grow!

  blond beauty

AUGUST 24, 2008 - Just gorgeous.  This is "J's" sister (see below) and they are both such beauties.  I was double lucky to get to photograph them a few weeks ago. I'm starting to work on the August 21 Urban Kids session shots (needed a few "down" days before hitting the computer again).  Keep checking back . . . many more faces to come :)

  boy, oh boy!

AUGUST 21, 2008 - Look at these two cuties.  They are such individuals (In looks and personality) but such a pair of sweet young men.  They both photographed so beautifully!  Thanks "L" and "L." :)

  little "j"

AUGUST 19, 2008 - I photographed this little cutie on his first birthday a few months back and was so happy to see him again for the Urban Kids session -- my, how he's grown (such a big boy now).  What fun and what beautiful looks he gave me :)

  brown-eyed boy

AUGUST 17, 2008 - You may recognize this charmer -- he's the brother of another brown-eyed beauty on the blog (poke around and see if you can guess -- you may catch him in a candid shot as well).  "A" and his whole family are model material -- just gorgeous!

  rain, rain go away!

AUGUST 16, 2008 - You can tell from the look on these boys' faces that we got caught in the rain during part of the Urban Kids session a few weeks ago.  These guys were little troopers though and "weathered"  the storm.  What cuties!

  baby blues

AUGUST 15, 2008 - Yay!  I made it.  Seven days in a row of my weeklong post-a-thon.  What better way to celebrate than with this little cutie.  And don't worry, there's much more to come . . .

one last teaser and the galleries will be LIVE :)

AUGUST 14, 2008 - I'm on the last of 12 Urban Kids galleries and I can't wait to launch them all.  Here's one final teaser for the night (because you'll all be asleep when I e-mail you with the passwords).  People often ask me if I only work with models or if I hire models for my web site.  "J" below is the reason I get this question.  While I do work with some of the modeling agencies and I do perform children's commercial photography, most of my kids are just kids (darn good-looking ones of course, but just kids).  Many times people tell me after a session that they're thinking of getting their kid into modeling -- what a huge compliment.  I think all my kids are already stars.  Look out for "J's" older sister, "T" to appear soon :)

oh, can't I blog them all?

AUGUST 13, 2008 - Well, as much as I wanted to put every shot up here, I narrowed it down to eight (gotta keep mom in suspense for her gallery launch tomorrow, right?).  All I can say is, look at those eyes!  Amazing!  I photographed "T" earlier this year and was so excited to see her again at the Urban Kids session.  This young woman is so graceful, so powerful, and so photogenic it kills me.  Her session was one of the quickest because this girl shows up and brings her A game every time.  She gave me exactly what I needed with almost no work other than snapping the shot.  She makes my job easy!  Thanks "T" . . . I can't wait to work with you again.

  sunny smiles :)

AUGUST 12, 2008 - The post-a-day challenge continues.  Rain or shine, these two little ones are always sunny faces.  I worked with "E" and "J" earlier this year.  Mom is home temporarily from living abroad and is surprising dad (who is still working overseas) with these pictures.  He will see these images of his little ones for the first time on this blog -- Hi "D."  I hope I get to meet you one day.  What more can you say about two beautiful children having such FUN?  I hardly realized it was raining at all.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the twirling shot of "E."  Whooooooooo . . .

  brotherly love

AUGUST 11, 2008 - And for my next trick ladies and gentlemen (day three of my posting challenge), I give you "Brothers L."  Mom told me that having two is easier than one.  Just looking at the connection between these guys, I can see how that could be true (maybe but I'm still definitely "done" with one child).  What I wouldn't give to have a picture like this of my sister and me at this age (for those of you who know me, you know why it would be such a treasure).  These boys were so sweet and cooperative and such good sports.  Mom didn't tell them until they were practically in the car that they were coming for pictures.  And they were still really nice to me :)

  true blues

AUGUST 10, 2008 - And, for my second post as part of my weeklong post-a-day-fest, here's another cutie from last weeks Urban Kid's session-- a total supermodel (and her equally cute but not so eager brother).  Mom, it was TOTALLY worth all  the work you did to get that outfit together.  Perfection!

urban kids session part I (post-a-day)

AUGUST 9, 2008 - What fun we had at the first annual Urban Kids photography session on Thursday night!  Thanks to all of you for coming out -- I know some of you came from over an hour away.   Can you imagine photographing 22 kids in four hours while dodging pedestrians, cars, and a serious thunderstorm?  Well, we did it!  And it was a blast.  Yes, I did go home and fall on the floor, thanks for asking :)   It's Saturday night and I've got a DVD playing on the Mac, popcorn in the bowl, and I'm Photoshopping away.  I hope to launch all 12 of the galleries by Thursday (I've never missed a deadline yet and it's lookin' good).

With all of the images created this week, I feel inspired (perhaps a bit dazed still?) to challenge myself to do a post-a-day for the next week.   So here I go -- post number one.  If you don't see your child's image, be sure to check back. I'll post everyone's at some point very soon.

Can't wait to see those of you scheduled for the Urban Kids portrait session scheduled on August 21st.  And could there be talk of an Urban Kids East Coast tour (shhhh . . . it's still a secret)?  If you're located somewhere between Detroit, NYC, and DC, drop me a line letting me know you'd like me to stop by.  I'm deciding on the cities and will announce an itinerary very soon.  Stay tuned . . .

"choose the new face of karen lippowiths photography "

AUGUST 4, 2008 - I need your help!  I'm working with the fabulous folks over at Modern Postcard to launch a year-long direct mail campaign as part of an integrated marketing plan (if you ever have a direct mail or print project like this, MP is the only way to go -- thanks for everything so far, Ken, you've really made this fun!).  A few thousand cards are going out to my target market in a few weeks.  I'm putting lots of new initiatives in place for 2009, so watch out.  Next year is going to be BIG!

Here's your chance to give me your .02.  I'd be grateful if you could help me select the new face of KLP for the inaugural piece.  Select from the five images below (placed in no particular order) and e-mail me with any thoughts or suggestions.  Thanks :)
